Radish Up Her Butt?

A snippet from a scraped site, I haven’t had time to Google for more details:

The French song Les Radis by Georges Brassens tells of an adulterous woman being punished by the public insertion of a large radish into her rectum.

This punishment was originally invented by the Ancient Greeks. The Greek radish was bigger and carrot shaped, so the punishment had obvious sexual connotations (as well as being more painful). It was also practised on men (well, we are talking ancient Greece).

I remember when I first heard of it I was amazed that there is actually a word in the English language that means “To have a radish forcibly inserted into your anus”. Of course since finding this site I now know that there is also a word meaning “To have ginger inserted into your anus”.
