In my last post, I mentioned that I was using grocery store ginger, and that I thought that it might be old and weak. It stung, but I didn't really understand why it classed as punishment.

I decided to try fermentation, and put a finger in a plastic bag in my refrigerator for a few days. I didn't see any visible changes, no mold or anything, and was concerned that the grocery store product had been cleaned so thoroughly that the fungus or whatever couldn't get established.

 To the contrary: it was much hotter than what I've felt previously. Still not torture or anything like, but…very stimulating. Significantly stronger. Single-point sample, though; this may simply be fresher.

In that earlier post, I also reported that I liked using a small finger, tied with a piece of string, so that I could put it all the way into my rectum.

Turns out, I don't know my own asshole.

I have not, in fact, been pushing the peeled finger all the way in. It's been going in far enough I needed the string to retrieve it, but there was, apparently, still a bit sticking out the anal sphincter.

Today, after letting it go for ten or fifteen minutes, I realized it was not all the way in, and made a point of pushing it the rest of the way.

To my surprise, the burning sensation stopped completely.

Let me say that again: either my rectal tissue seems not to be sensitive to ginger, or secretions within the rectum block the action of the ginger.

All the stinging seems to be limited to the anus and surrounding area.

Can anyone confirm these experiences?

Where I live, ginger is widely grown and sold in huge bags because of the high Asian population. One thing that helps ginger keep its potency is to store it in a little plastic bag, then scrape it with the tines of a fork or slit it with a knife. This releases the juices inside. You can use the same piece several times this way, and it seems to get even stronger the older it is.

I have been playing with ginger in it's various forms for years with all good results.  I found one way to make ginger last longer, up to an hour is when it seems to die down, is to move it in and out and twist it some, the fire starts right up again…   One should not discount the use of ground ginger in the can either as this can be used on other body parts.
